Queen Victoria, Royal Monarch of the United Kingdom, 1837-1901
Victorians embraced the machine age that allowed them to manufacture ornate frames that were more affordable for the main populace. There is a wide range of styles, some with real gold leaf, most with gold gild paint. One of our favorite styles are the aesthetic frames that are inspired by nature -- look for the tree limbs and branches often seen in the frame design.
As over the top, ornate, Victorian frames were starting to fall out of favor, simpler tastes entered the picture with Eastlake style frames that had simple lines and geometric embellishments cut into the black paint showing the white gesso below. Hand carved walnut or mahogany frames with a natural tree bark look were popular as well.
Our collection of Victorian frames is constantly changing. Come soon to find a frame to perfectly match your artwork or mirror.
